About ME

Hi! My Name is Orla Mahon, and I am currently a freshman at Creighton University pursuing a four-year degree. I have no idea what my plan is for my major or the future, but I plan to explore these options further through courses and internships over the summer. I absolutely love to travel; this might as well be a fun fact about myself. This past Christmas break, I traveled to Ireland with my family (where my parents are from) and from there went to Italy. I absolutely loved it. I must say I prefer Europe over the U.S for many reasons, but nothing beats the feeling of returning to my home (Chicago) after a long trip abroad. When I was abroad, I realized how stress-free it felt for me. I mean, you get 25,000 steps a day without even trying, and the food quality is so much better (although nothing beats a home-cooked meal from my mom).

I could tell you about my trip and travel for ages, but I must move on to the reasons I chose to attend Creighton. If I might be completely honest, the main reason was the financial aid and the fact that my mom knew people who had previously attended and had nothing but good things to say. I had many options that seemed amazing, but in the end, it came down to the money. And if you think of it, every college is meant to do the same thing, which is to help you get a degree. Finding your career or path is all on you (you eventually learn this). My dream school happened to be in Boston, where I got garuntee transfer, which had many requirements. I must pass the IB program in High school and do excepional my first year here at Creighton. It was honestly too much. My goal for next year, which I am so excited about, is study abroad, and I absolutely cannot wait.

To continue with my about me, I am the fourth child in a family of six. I have one older sister and two older brothers. My brothers already graduated from college, and my sister currently attends school in New York (I know, amazing. That’s like a dream). I love to write, draw, and go on walks outside. I could literally walk forever and anywhere, which is part of the reason I love Europe, and how walkable it is. I love movies, I could watch them all day everyday (same with shows). I wish I were a big reading girl, but I only really like books that are actually good and engaging. I love to learn and see the world. I must say that I only love my phone if I am not endlessly scrolling. I love my computer sometimes, like when I don’t have to do schoolwork. I have absolutely no experience with programming whatsoever, and I don’t really care for it as well. It is interesting to know how it works, but other than that, not much. I think the news can be good and sometimes dangerous because misinformation exists. There are always positives and negatives, no matter how you look at it.
